The Natural Guide
Hiding in Bliss at Gajah Mina Resort
One of the best resorts in Bali in terms of surroundings and comfort, Gajah Mina is worth the trip to west Bali, especially on a honeymoon. The resort is at the end of a tiny village road winding through rice fields shaded by coconut, with the deep blue line of the ocean in the background. After a last breathtaking turn, a majestic stairway lets you access a refuge of elegance out of this worlds. Each of the villas offers total secrecy, in small gardens surrounded by thick walls. Private terraces invite you to lounge amidst the clouds and the crowns of palms.

Tucked in between rice fields, the wide pool is built around the shape of a rice terrace and uses sea salts and minerals for natural feeling. A walk towards the ocean leads to a small cape covered by thick alang-alang grasses, ending on a cliff from where dramatic views extend towards both ends of the island. You can also visit grottos accessible at low tide below the cliff, with mysterious carvings, or walk endlessly on the 30 km long beach - beware the very strong surf.

The Naga Restaurant features great Asian and international cuisine using local farmer's product - make sure to pick some of the Thai specialities, the fresh vegetables soups or salads, or the seafood specialities (about Rp. 50,000). The location above rice fields is exquisite.

The Rough Guide To Bali and Lombok
Currently the most upmarket place to stay in Lalang Linggah, comprising eight air-con bungalows, designed in simple yet chic style, with a relaxed Mediterranean flavour. Each bungalow is comfortably furnished and has its own private garden verandah and pretty garden bathroom. There's a nice long swimming pool here as well as a classy restaurant specializing in fish and seafood dishes, and a bar (Sacred River guests can walk to the bar here in only 10min).
